Adult Sunday Morning Electives

Our Sunday morning schedule includes elective classes for adults that are held between the worship services, from 10:10-10:50. Through our electives, we attempt to offer a variety of classes encompassing the study of Scripture, church history, and theology. We also try to engage our culture and put ministry into action to better equip us to love God, share Christ, and serve the world.

Winter 2017-2018 (January 7 – March 4) Elective Choices

ANXIOUS FOR NOTHING: FINDING CALM IN A CHAOTIC WORLD by Max Lucado
Facilitators: Daleen Charles & Simone Heisey
Room 117
Anxiety, worry, fear, and edginess seem to consume our lives. Using Philippians 4:6-7 as our roadmap, we will invite God to reframe the way we face our fears and win the war on worry. By His power we will "be anxious for nothing" and experience the "peace of God, which surpasses all understanding."

CHURCH WARNINGS! THE SEVEN CHURCHES OF REVELATION FOR TODAY
Facilitator: Carl Shank
Room 134
Looking at the opening chapters of the book of Revelation, we will focus on Christ's warnings to the modern day church through his messages to the seven churches of Revelation. Lack of love, persecution, accommodation, "lukewarmness" and self-satisfaction are all problems churches and Christians face today. Find out how we can conquer these church-wide issues in the Name and Spirit of Christ.

COMING TOGETHER FOR PRAYER
Facilitator: Ronda Toews
Room 107
For where two or three come together in my name there am I with them. Matthew 18:20
God invites us to meet with him and to pray. Join us in lifting up our church body, our community, and the worldwide church through prayer. Whether you consider your prayer life to be rich and mature or in its infancy, you will find a home here.

EXPERIENCING EBIC
Facilitator: Steve Lane
Room 119
What beliefs, values, and practices form the core of Elizabethtown Brethren in Christ Church? How does the vision Love God, Share Christ, Serve the World relate to the ministries of this congregation? What is expected of those who become members? This elective seeks to answer these questions and encourage people in what it means to walk with Jesus. While this elective is a requirement for membership, membership is not required upon completion. Both new and longtime attenders are welcome. If you are wondering about membership, visit this class while you are considering.

INTRODUCTION TO SIGN LANGUAGE
Facilitator: Kathy Barlow
Room 105
Sharing Christ sometimes requires us to stretch ourselves. That might mean connecting with people who are different than you. We are blessed to have several people attending EBIC who communicate through sign language. If you would like to help our church be more welcoming to those people, please join us. This class will provide an introduction to sign language. Learn a little basic conversation as well as some vocabulary to help introduce someone to Jesus. Come join us as we explore another way to share Christ and serve the world.

LOVE & RESPECT: THE LOVE SHE MOST DESIRES; THE RESPECT HE DESPERATELY NEEDS
by Emerson Eggerichs
Facilitators: Heidi Risser, Mike & Janelle Schriver
Room 142
This video-based class will focus on cracking the communication code between husband and wife that involves understanding that unconditional respect is as powerful for him as unconditional love is for her. Receive helpful insights for a better marriage.

THE TEN COMMANDMENTS & THEIR APPLICATION IN TODAY'S WORLD
Facilitator: Ron Grenko
Room 108
This discussion-based elective will take an in-depth look at the Ten Commandments. What do they tell us about God's character? How do we apply the Ten Commandments to our daily lives? How do we violate them? How do they apply to the current events of today? How do we use them individually to become the children of God he wants us to be?

YOUNG ADULT ELECTIVE: EPHESIANS
Facilitator: Ryan Zook
Room 132
All the following passages come from the bounty found in the book of Ephesians:

  • Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ
  • But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which He loved us
  • Be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might. Put on the whole armor of God
Young adults will work through Ephesians during Sunday school and Thursday evening Bible Studies, and the passages will be explored from various perspectives.
